Eddie Mutwe: Katikkiro Mayiga Condemns Arrest of Bobi Wine’s Bodyguard

Buganda Kingdom’s Prime Minister Charles Peter Mayiga has condemned the arrest of Edward Ssebufu, alias Eddie Mutwe, and called for his release.

Mayiga claimed in a statement on Monday that Eddie Mutwe is being accused of growing a long beard and not knowing Runyakore. He further said that Eddie Mutwe should be handed over to police in case he committed any offense.

“Gen. Muhoozi arrested Eddie Mutwe, accusing him of growing a long beard and not knowing Runyakore. Only police have the authority to arrest lawbreakers. I request the CDF to hand over Eddie Mutwe to police in case he committed any offense and equally urge the police to follow the law,” he said.

Mayiga said abducting people, beating up journalists, and threatening people won’t yield any good.

Eddie Mutwe, the head of security of National Unity Platform’s president Robert Kyagulanyi, was abducted last week. Kyagulanyi said his bodyguard had been violently abducted from Kiwango village in Mukono district by armed men in Special Forces Command (SFC) uniforms traveling in a Toyota van.

Last week, the Chief of Defence Forces, Gen. Muhoozi, said Eddie Mutwe was in his custody learning how to speak Runyakore.

David Lewis Rubongoya, the party’s secretary general, claimed the regime is using abductions to disorganize NUP and make it incapacitated as the party readies for the 2026 general elections.

“The regime is clearly on repeat mode of what they did ahead of the 2021 election. They believe that by arresting and abducting many comrades, they will get us busy running around prisons, but most importantly, incapacitate us by picking up many valuable comrades,” he said.
