Internet Disruption Hits Ministry of Internal Affairs

The Ministry of Internal Affairs has announced a temporary breakdown of internet-based services at its headquarters due to a fiber cut caused by ongoing roadworks on Old Portbell Road. The disruption has affected several key services, including passport applications and the personalization of resident facilities such as work permits and student passes.
In a statement issued on December 3, the Ministry clarified that passport applicants are unable to access the Passport Portal or receive services related to personalization and interviews at the headquarters. Similarly, services for resident facilities are temporarily unavailable.
However, the ministry assured the public that alternative offices across the country remain operational. “These services can still be accessed at other offices across the country,” the statement emphasized.
The Ministry also noted that the eVisa portal (www.visas.immigration.go.ug) is functioning normally and is not impacted by the issue. Authorities are actively working to resolve the problem and restore full services at the headquarters.
“We regret any inconvenience this disruption may cause and appreciate your patience and understanding,” the statement read, adding that updates on the restoration of services will be communicated through official channels.
The ministry has urged the public to remain calm and cooperative as efforts to restore connectivity continue.
