Speaker Among Condemns Ssemakadde’s Vulgarity
Speaker of parliament Anita Among has condemned the vulgarity recently displayed by controversial Uganda Law Society president Isaac Ssemakade when he described the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) as a ‘Karamojong vagina.’.
Among said on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, that it’s bad to abuse a woman’s private parts, especially because it is where the ULS president came from.
“We ought to respect each other. The women you are abusing today are either your mother, your wife, your daughter, or your mother-in-law. So, abusing a woman’s private parts that you used to come out from is very bad,” Among said.
“The person you are attacking is a person of a higher caliber. I don’t think you would love your children out there to hear what was said,” she added.
The speaker made the condemnation following a request by Faith Nakut (Napak DWR) to have parliament condemn the practice of describing women by their genitalia.
“It is important that this Parliament pronounces itself before the practice of describing women with their genitalia becomes a norm in our country. It is important that this Parliament condemns it,” Nakut requested.
Nakut said the president of the Uganda Law Society cannot be left to say ‘anything he wants’ concerning the person of the DPP or a woman in Uganda.
ULS president Isaac Ssemakade faced criticism from a section of Ugandan lawyers for his derogatory remarks against the DPP. While speaking at People’s Front for Freedom offices at Katonga this month, Ssemakadde described the DPP as a vagina from Karamoja.
