Kabale: Armless Student Writes UCE Exams Using His Feet; Eyes Chief Justice Post

John Kakama, a 20-year-old student at Kigezi High School, is using his feet to write the Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) exams.

Born without arms, Kakama hails from the neighbouring Ntungamo district.

He is one of the 108 students sitting for their UCE examinations at the school under the new competency-based curriculum

When our reporter visited the school on Monday, Kakama was well-prepared for his first Mathematics exam, with all the necessary materials in place

Kakama attributes his academic journey to “God’s grace”, describing it as a “remarkable experience to have reached this stage.”

He expressed confidence in his performance, crediting the training and preparation he has received.

Orphaned at a young age, Kakama is currently under the care of the Child Development Centre in his home district.

He dreams of becoming a lawyer and one day rising to the position of Chief Justice, trusting in God’s guidance to help him achieve this goal.

Abraham Akampurira, the head teacher of Kigezi High School, praised Kakama, describing him as a unique student whose success is inevitable.

Meanwhile, two female candidates at Kabale Secondary School missed their examinations.

According to the school’s head teacher, Amon Mwesigye Byaruhanga, one of the students had a domestic dispute with her aunt, leading her to run away from home. The other candidate recently got married.

Mwesigye urged the government to enact stricter laws to prevent men from marrying school-going children.
