UAE Says its Ambassador’s Residence in Khartoum Attacked by Sudanese Warplane
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has accused the Sudanese armed forces of attacking the residence of its Ambassador in Khartoum, Chimp Corps report.
“UAE’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemns an attack that targeted the residence of the UAE Head of Mission, in Khartoum, by a Sudanese army aircraft,” the UAE said in a statement on Monday morning.
Khartoum accuses UAE of secretly providing arms to the Sudanese paramilitary group, Rapid Support Forces led by warlord Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo.
The President of the Transitional Sovereign Council of Sudan last week told the UN General Assembly that while his country was committed to peace, rebels funded by parties elsewhere in the region were waging “devastating aggression” against his country.
“A war is being waged by a group of rebels receiving political and logistical support at the local and regional level,” said Abdel-Fattah Al-Burhan Abdelrahman Al-Burhan in his address to the Assembly’s annual debate.
UAE has since denied claims of backing RSF which is accused of gross human rights violations, saying it remains dedicated to supporting a peaceful resolution to the conflict in Sudan.
In a statement on Monday morning, UAE said that it would submit a letter to the League of Arab States, the African Union and the United Nations “against this attack by the Sudanese Armed Forces, as it represents a flagrant violation of the fundamental principle of the inviolability of diplomatic premises.”
UAE’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs also “stressed the importance of protecting diplomatic buildings and embassy staff residences, in accordance with the treaties and customs that regulate diplomatic relations and said it rejects all forms of violence and terrorism.”
