My face screaming "NOOOO VINNY WHY U DO THIS" so hard what a hit boi !!! Captain Incredible @VincentKompany
In a moment to encapsulate the thrilling drama of this year's title battle, Kompany broke Leicester's dogged resistance with a 30-yard thunderbolt with 20 minutes remaining at the Etihad.
Incredibly, the strike was the Manchester City captain's first shot on target from outside the penalty area in over five years and the first he had scored from outside the box for the club.
At the final whistle, Man City strikers Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus were overheard telling Kompany they were shouting at him not to shoot.
A smiling Kompany later responded: "I was getting annoyed, hearing everyone saying 'don't shoot'. I've done enough in my career not to have young players tell me what I can and cannot do."
Asked what he was thinking when Kompany shaped to strike at goal, City boss Pep Guardiola admitted to Sky Sports: "I was thinking pass the ball, pass the ball. I wasn't confident."
City's victory over Leicester was their 13th in succession. A win on the final day at Brighton will guarantee that City are crowned champions, despite Liverpool's perfect form for the last two months
Reaction to Kompany's incredible goal
Sky Sports' Gary Neville: "What he has done at Manchester City is outstanding. It's incredible. He's the leader on the pitch and what he's just done tonight, well, I've never seen too many moments like that in the Premier League.
"I was here when the Aguero goal went in, and for these fans here it can never get better than that - but this has run it very close."
City boss Guardiola: "Honestly, I wasn't too confident [when he shot] but football is mad for that. The artists are the players, they have to decide things in a fraction of a second and what's important isn't the goal, it's him shooting while believing he was going to score."
Goalscorer Kompany: "I've scored goals like that in training! It's 15 years I've been in top-level football, midfielders telling me 'don't shoot, play the ball wide' and every time they miss, for 15 years I've been saying 'I promise you, one day I'm going to have a shot from outside the box and I'm going to score a goal and you're going to be really happy with that one'."
