Uganda To Host 2019 Regional Table Tennis Championship

The International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) has selected Uganda to host the regional 2019 East African Senior Championships.

Fourteen nations are expected to take part in the Championship that will take place between March and April.

"We received communication from ITTF indicating Uganda is selected to host the Championship. They will inform us of the dates which will fall between March to April, Robert Jjaggwe, President of the Uganda Table Tennis Association (UTTA) told URN.

"This is very good news for us because Uganda has not hosted a big regional Table Tennis tournament for many years. It will help expose our players better and also showcase our organizational standards," added Jjagwe.

The 14 nations that will take part in the ITTF sanctioned Championship include; Madagascar, Sudan, South Sudan, Somalia, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Seychelles, Comoros, Burundi, Mauritius and hosts Uganda.

Jajjgwe also confirmed that the International body has approved a TTX development project for Uganda.

TTX is a new version of Table Tennis introduced which can be played on the beach, on the streets, in the city centre, or anywhere with a table. It also has heavier balls, and no-spin rackets.

The first ever TTX Table Tennis event was held in Dusseldolf, Germany last year during the World Championships.
