Galiwango had earlier been arrested as part of a group that attacked four villages in Lwengo and Bukomansimbi districts killings five people on New Years Day. However, he escaped from Masaka court where he and his co-accused, Mohammed Kiddawalime were scheduled to appear last month for the mention of the case before committal to the High Court.
They were accused of masterminding attacks that claimed the lives of Denis Ssebugwawo Lumala, a retired police officer, Jane Nantale, John Sseremba, John Kawalya and Gonzaga Kayemba.
Last week, Police in the Greater Masaka sub-region relaunched a manhunt for Galiwango, after his colleague Muhammad Kiddawalime, was lynched by a mob during a foiled robbery in Mukoko village, Bukulula Sub County in Kalungu district.
They had broken into the home of Resty Nakyambadde, a midwife at Bukulula health Centre IV before they were raided by a mob in an attack that left one of them dead. Galiwango has since been on the run.
According to Ankole Region Prisons Commander Frank Byamugisha, Galiwango is now receiving treatment at Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital. Byamugisha declined to divulge details on the matter.
Security has been beefed up at Mbarara Hospital.
